The fourth national reading investigation survey shows Jin Yong, a kungfu novel writer from Hong Kong, as its favorite writer, followed by Ba Jin, Lu Xun, Qiong Yao, Jia Pingwa, Lao She, Gu Long, Bing Xin, Yu Qiuyu and Cao Xueqin.

National reading investigation held by Chinese Institute of Publishing Science(CIPS) started in 1999, and had a survey every one year. From the end of 2005 to the beginning of 2006, CIPS held the fourth investigation on national reading.

Seven of the top 10 writers have remained on the list for four years in a row: Lu Xun, Ba Jin, Jin Yong, Lao She, Qiong Yao, Gu Long and Jia Pingwa.

The top ten favourite writers haven't changed much, only the order of their rank. All of them are famed master writers or popular book writers, but most of the writers are from Hong Kong, which is a recent trend in China.
