China

The Chinese mainland stock markets closed down on Thursday amid wait-and-see mood after more unsatisfactory economic data were released.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 47.44 points, or 2.28 percent, finishing at 2031.68 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index declined 128.80 points, or 1.72 percent, to close at 7361.49 points.

Hong Kong stocks gained 36.16 points, or 0.23 percent, to close at 15613.90 on Thursday.

Japan

Tokyo stocks ended higher Thursday with the key Nikkei index up 0.70 percent.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average rose 60.31 points to 8,720.55.

The Topix index went up 14.70 points, or 1.76 percent, to 849.25.

Australia

Australian shares closed 1.2 percent lower on Thursday as losses in financial stocks weighed down the market despite gains in resources led by mining giant Rio Tinto.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 fell to close 42.7 points lower at 3,598.0.

The broader All Ordinaries shed 39.1 points, or 1.1 percent, to 3,534.2.
