Taiwan stocks closed sharply higher Wednesday with much heavier turnover, according to media reports reaching in Hong Kong Wednesday from Taipei.
The benchmark weighted index opened at intra-day low 4,470.73 and widened its gains afterwards to close at the day's highest 4, 658.87, up 186.21 points, or 4.16 percent.
Turnover rose to 92.37 billion New Taiwan dollars (2.76 billion U.S. dollars) from Tuesday's 82.87 billion New Taiwan dollars (2. 47 billion U.S. dollars).
Advancing companies greatly outnumbered declining shares 1,351 to 161, with 203 stocks unchanged. |
