China

The Chinese mainland stock markets closed up on Wednesday.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 41.38 points, or 2.03 percent, finishing at 2079.12 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index climbed 129.30 points, or 1.76 percent, to close at 7490.29 points.

Hong Kong stocks rebounded sharply by soaring 824.52 points, or 5.59 percent, to close at 15, 577.74 on Wednesday as the market expected China may come up with greater stimulus packages amid latest downbeat producer price index in November.

Japan

Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Wednesday, extending their gains into a three-day winning streak.

The benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 264.37 points, or 3.15 percent, from Tuesday to 8,660.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 16.61 points, or 2.03 percent, to 834. 55.

Australia

Australian shares ended higher after a surge by the big miners more than offset further falls by the banks.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 share index closed up 1.01 percent, or 36.4 points, at 3,640.7.

The All Ordinaries index was up 1.12 percent, or 39.6 points, at 3573.3 points for the day.
