Regarded as the biggest and the most efficient fair for general merchandise in China, the Yiwu international commodities fair has attracted merchants from all-over the world to Yiwu, a small city in east China's Zhejiang province.

From Sunday to Thursday, this year's Yiwu fair will be held in the China Commodity City Exhibition Center, where thousands of businessmen will gather to seek opportunities.

CRI's Hanwei is there and files this report.

Yiwu is the country's largest distribution center for small commodities. Beginning in 1995, the Yiwu fair has become a major portal for China's small commodity businesses to seek opportunity in the global market. It's also a place for foreign businessman to explore the blooming Chinese market.

Last year, over 83,000 businessmen from 142 countries and regions visited the Yiwu fair and reached deals worth 8.1 billion yuan or 1 billion US dollars, including export deals of 661 million US dollars.

This year's fair is expected to be even greater than the last one. Xu Zhijian is the deputy Party of the Yiwu.

"Themed 'New Yiwu Fair, New stage',it will attract more high-qualified enterprises and professionals. It will also provide wider range of business opportunities for guests."

According to the mayor, 4000 booths are set up for 2,000 enterprises to showcase their products this year. Over 100,000 visitors are expected to attend, including more than 15,000 from overseas.

"Over 140 enterprises from abroad will host 346 booths in the fair. We have received over 3,000 registration with the fair, an increase of 18 percent over last year. Now business groups from 9 countries and regions such as India and Germany have confirmed their attendance."
