Yunshe-China's Foremost Tujia Village
    2009-06-25 14:56:42     china.org.cn

Tujia people welcome their guests in song, May 25, 2009. Yunshe (literally translated from the Chinese: "a fairy village in the clouds") is located at the foot of the Fanjing peaks, part of the Wuling mountain range in northeast Guizhou province. About 1,700 Tujia people have lived there for more than 1,000 years - most bear the same family name: "Yang". A stream runs around the village and has provided daily water needs for generations. According to local people, the stream will flow backwards when drought comes. Local people still maintain many elements of a traditional way of life, such as their wedding service, papermaking, and other ritual ceremonies. They also put on special performances for visitors. Yunshe is a great place to experience the unique Tujia culture.[Photo:china.org.cn]
