Documents Present Picture of Brutal Past
Among the documents at the Archives of the Nationalities Cultural Palace in Beijing are some that hint that a feudal-serfdom institution existed in Tibet before the democratic reform in 1959.
 
 
• No Death Penalty so far over Lhasa Violence
Forty-two people had been jailed so far for their involvement in the March 14 riot in Tibet's capital Lhasa, but no death penalty had been handed down, a senior official said.
• Central Authorities to Meet Dalai's Representatives in Early July
The authorities announced Sunday that relevant central government departments will meet personal representatives of the Dalai Lama at his request in early July.
