National Day
October 1, 2007 marks the 58th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On December 2, 1948, the Central People's Government passed the Resolution on the National Day of the People's Republic of China and declared that October 1, the day the People's Republic of China was founded, as the National Day of China.
Golden Week Holiday
China's "Golden Week" holidays include the Spring Festival, the May Day holiday and the National Day holiday starting in September 1999, when the State Council decided to introduce the three so-called "golden weeks" to help stimulate domestic consumption and lessen the impact of the Asian financial crisis by spurring development of the tourism industry.
According to the State Council, the "Golden Week" holiday scheme will remain unchanged this year, although some discordant voices have emerged, complaining about overcrowding, poor service and the scarcity of hotel rooms during the "Golden Week" holidays.
Some other people also believe that the "Golden Week" holidays boost domestic consumption and promote the idea of traveling out and enjoying life. |
