Spotlight | Chongqing, a modern city with more than 3,000 years history, is going to welcome its 10th anniversary as the fourth municipality in China, after Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. On March 14, 1997, the central government passed an agreement to make the city a municipality, and on June 18 of that year, the provincial-level municipality of Chongqing was officially established. 10 years of development have made the city an economic hub and the gateway to the west of the country. Besides being a financial powerhouse, the city is also home to many ethnic groups in China, including Han, Miao and Tibetan.
