As statistics show, by the end of 2001, the accumulated paid-in foreign capital reaches US 420 million (direct 278 million, indirect 142 million), and the city has approved in total 1037 foreign invested enterprises with contractual capital of US 1062 million and paid-in capital of US 278 million from 32 countries and regions. New growth was registered in foreign trade, according to the Customs statistics in 2001; the aggregator foreign trade volume reached US 494 million.

 

By making use of the loan from foreign governments and international financial institutions, technology and complete sets of equipment have been introduced and imported, which have made possible some key projects of industry, medical and health work and infrastructures.  This pattern takes a dominant function in promoting the technique reform of the enterprises upgrading the industry, improving the medical and health condition and perfecting the municipal infrastructures.

 

Guiyang Investment and Trade Fair (Hong Kong) 2001 was held in Hong Kong from April 10 to 11, 2001. Headed by the Way or Sun Guoqiang, the economy and trade delegation of Guiyang Municipal People's Government was composed of some state-owned, private-owned and joint-ventured enterprises that are economically strong and financially reputable. A central exhibition area and exhibitions by ten districts, city and counties as well as development zones were set up in the fair. About 100 projects and a number of hitech products were displayed. Meanwhile, activities of Guizhou ethnic performances, colorful floats, etc. were organized and created great sensations in Hong Kong. A favorable city image of Guiyang was solemnly projected in the international cosmopolis. Wide attention was attracted by the mass media and different circles in Hong Kong.
