The business of local telephone, long distance call, mobile phone, IC card telephone, magnetic card telephone, data communication and wireless call have been developed in Guiyang, among which, the long distance and local call have been operated by programme-controlled exchanging and digital transmission. The telephone number increased from six-figure to seven-figure. The China Public Data Telecommunication Net has been set up, including Public Group Exchanging Data Net, Public Numeral Data Net and Public Computer Internet.
The capacity of the urban programme-controlled telephone exchange totals to 883,500. Altogether there are 611,100 telephone subscribers who can dial more than 400 cities in China and more than 190 cities and regions in the world. For residential telephone, 39 percent of the urban people have their own telephones. The capacity of long-distance exchange is 30,000 terminals, while the capacity of mobile telephone system is more than 210,000 and the subscribers are 676,700. Mobile telephones roam more than 300 large and medium-size cities in the country. The subscribers can dial more than 30 countries. IC card and magnetic card telephones have been installed in the downtown area, big hotels, markets, railway stations and the airport, etc,.
In Guiyang, some paging stations such as 126 station, 988 station, and 199 station have been opened for use. Of which, 199 station is the national paging station with the most advanced FLEXTM coding system. The net number is unified in the country so that the subscribers in different cities can exchange information without dialing long-distance call and roam around the country without changing the numbers. By the end of 1998, 199 station will be opened in more than 100 large and medium-sized cities in the country and connected with Hongkong.
