The China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) set up the "Broad Union Fund" on Sunday, May 13, 2008, with 30 million Yuan, or more than 4 million US dollars, donated by Broad Union Investment Management Group Co., Ltd. The money will be used for education and health programs for women and children in western China.

Ms. Ding Yuxin, Honorary Chairman of Broad Union, attached great importance to the education of the young people.

"As a mother myself, I know how important it is to care for the young. As for mothers in poverty-stricken areas, the responsibility is even harder. I feel it necessary to give them a hand. Chinese entrepreneurs are the biggest beneficiaries of the Reform-and-Opening-up policy that has been implemented for 30 years. Therefore, we need to contribute back to the society. Charity and public welfare projects are the best way."

China Soong Ching Ling Foundation has long been engaged in public welfare programs, such as "The Future Project" and "The Women and Children Health Program in the West".

Li Ning, Secretary-General of CSCLF, said the foundation has taken a very active role in promoting public welfare.

"Since the very beginning of the founding of CSCLF, we've been placing the development of the west in a very important position. We first carried out some activities for education, providing scholarship to students from poor families. We also helped to improve facilities in schools. All together, we've collected 250 million Yuan, or 36 million US dollars, for education and health programs for women and children."
