As the city of Shenzhen awaits the arrival of the Olympic torch on May 8, 22-year old Chen Zhuojian is expressing his warm welcome with a special hairstyle.
Five Olympic rings adorn the top of his head. Blue letters spell "2008" on the left side of his head, red ones spell "Beijing" on the right and a torch is dyed on the back. The colorful design has made the young salesman a star in the shopping mall where he works.
"The Olympic Games is coming. I won't have the chance to be a torch bearer, but I can do something else," he said.
Before the haircut, Chen talked with his boss, who supported his idea and sponsored him.
"Super courage and extraordinary endurance is necessary to get such a cut," Chen tells those who want to imitate him. The whole process takes three and a half hours, and the dyeing process is painful, he says. In addition, he faces mocking glances and opinions on his hairstyle every day. |
