How do you rate the tourists you met during the recent National Day holiday? Did they behave themselves?
Shanghai Youth Daily conducted a survey of 5,000 local residents on this matter. It found that a number of tourists didn't obey general rules in public places. However, in general the instances of violations were decreased from previous years.
Eighty-five percent of respondents said that they had encountered tourists conducting improper behaviour during their holiday. These bad behaviours mainly consisted of jaywalking (80 percent), littering (76 percent), smoking in public (71 percent), making excessive noise and spitting.
As to which bad behaviour bothered them the most? Most of the respondents said it was smoking. Close behind was queue jumping to get a seat, jaywalking and littering in public places. Although they didn't like the behaviour of such tourists, few people chose to stop them. Only 6 percent of respondents said that they would stop a tourist from doing something wrong.
Positive feedback from the survey was that this year 83 percent respondents said that they tried to behave themselves while out traveling.
