    2007-07-12 14:37:02     Shanghai Daily
A ten-month-old baby survived an eight-floor fall after her drunken father threw her out a window during an argument with his mother-in-law in Shanghai on Wednesday.

The father, a businessman from Henan Province, deliberately threw his daughter out a window of his mother-in-law's apartment in Jiangqiao Town, Jiading District, about 4.30pm on Wednesday, the Youth Daily reported, citing police.

The window was said to be more than 20 meters high, the report said.

The infant suffered a broken right leg in the fall and was still in hospital for observation, the report said.

The father, 26, was said to have a strained relationship with his mother-in-law. His wife asked for a divorce, which he refused, two months ago, the report said.

His wife, a woman from Zhejiang Province surnamed Xu, is out of town.

The man was said to have taken sleeping pills in the morning before he started to drink in the afternoon. The argument with his mother-in-law started after she asked him to leave her house, the report said.

Police detained the man while they continued their investigation.
