Related: 11th Day of Every Month Reminds Beijingers to Line Up
Attention please, if you are a habitual queue jumper, because Beijing is about to see its fourth monthly "day of lining up" on Friday, May 11.
Started from February, the 11th day of every month is chosen as the promotion day for queuing up, as part of a drive to improve the city's image before next year's Olympics.
This month's day of lining up will be a queue day -- not only for people, but also for cars, or rather for the drivers of the three million automobiles in the city, said Zheng Mojie, deputy director of Beijing's Capital Ethic Development Office on Thursday.
Zheng said in a news conference on Thursday that promotional activities will be held on Friday at 100 major crossroads in the eighteen districts of Beijing.
On each site, volunteers will help maintain traffic order, discouraging pedestrians from jumping red lights. Meanwhile, they will present car drivers with promotional materials -- including stickers bearing the logo of the event. Drivers will be asked to put the stickers on the rear window of their cars, and become part of the promotion.
The biggest site among the 100 allocated will be the square in front of the famous Silk Market, in the Chaoyang district of Beijing. Several car drivers will deliver speeches on behalf of all drivers in the city, including taxi drivers and bus drivers.
Before the 2008 Olympics, the city is also determined to eradicate bad habits like spitting in public and littering. |
