Wang Weijun, a teacher in Zhengzhou city in central China's Henan province, has succeeded in shaping eggs into Olympic symbols on Monday.
DAHE.CN reports that Wang Weijun has carved the Beijing Olympics logo, the five Fuwa mascots and icons of 35 sports events into 41 eggs.
Wang Weijun said he was inspired by a report he read in a newspaper last July of a handicraftsman who carved portraits into eggs. "Wouldn't it be more meaningful to carve something related to the forthcoming 2008 Olympics?" he thought. And then he put his idea into action.
Although Wang Weijun had drawn before, it was his first time to carve eggs, and so he failed numerous times.
"The only way to deal with the spoiled eggs is to eat them," said Wang Weijun. "Now, my stomach turns at the sight of an egg."
In order to promote the Olympics, Wang Weijun is also planning to bring his work to an art exhibition to be held during a ceremony to worship Chinese people's common ancestor. "The 2008 Beijing Olympics is a great event for all Chinese,¡± he said.
The ceremony is being organized by the Henan government to worship Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor, who, as legend has it, is believed to be the ancestor of all Chinese. It will take place in Xinzheng city on April 19, 2007.
