Yinhe Cemetery in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou has started using surveillance cameras to discourage gravediggers.
43 cameras have recently been installed to overlook the cemetery and its parking lot, according to the local Information Times.
The newspaper cites staff at the cemetery as saying the cameras are to trace possible gravediggers, who steal ashes and then blackmail families.
As the traditional Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, draws near on Thursday, cemeteries across the country have reported a rising number of people sweeping tombs. |
