Graveyard Tries to Attract More Tourists

Looking for a way to relax? How about a leisurely stroll past the tombs of thousands of dead bodies?

The city's largest cemetery is now promoting itself as a sightseeing spot for over-stressed office workers, officials said on Friday.

Fushouyuan cemetery in Qingpu District said it will offer free tours to attract more visitors.

"It will give downtown residents a chance to enjoy nature," said Wang Lan, a deputy manager of the site.

"Besides, more than 30 Chinese celebrities are buried in the cemetery, giving it a charming human landscape," she added.

Celebrities include Ruan Lingyu, a movies star in the 1930s and Shen Yinmo, a poet and calligrapher.

Gam Ni, a fashion company employee, said walking through a graveyard is a great way for him to relax.

"Every time I go to a graveyard, I find a person's life is just chicken poop. When I am there I realize the things I care a great deal about in daily life seem no longer to be that significant to me," he said.

Kiki Liu, a secretary with a shipping company, said she isn't dying to tour a cemetery.

"(They) always remind me of my late friends and relatives," she said.
