A Chinese backpacker and freelance journalist who writes a popular travel blog is feared missing near the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Legal Mirror reports.

25-year-old Yuan Tingting writes column on her travels for the China Daily website. Concerns for her whereabouts have been growing ever since the website editors lost all contact with Yuan Tingting more than 14 days ago.

The last time the editor contacted the intrepid traveler was in last December, when Yuan Tingting told him via the internet that she was going to travel to Peshawar, a city on Pakistan's northwestern frontier. Yuan Tingting updated her blog on January 9 and has not been in contact with the website since.

The China Daily editor has since posted several notices on local online forums, saying they are very worried about the woman's safety because of the situation in the area. He wrote that Yuan Tingting may still be in Afghanistan and asked if anyone knows how she may contact or find her.

An official from the Asian department of the Foreign Affairs Ministry says they have not received any reports of any Chinese citizens who have met with accidents or misadventures in Afghanistan.

The Legal Mirror report says that they failed to contact the Chinese embassy in Afghanistan.

Hailing from southwest China's Sichuan province, Yuan Tingting has been backpacking since she was 13 years old. She has kept a blog of her travels to more than 40 countries, including Egypt, Cambodia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
