Comedy "Four Christmases" won the Thanksgiving holiday weekend box office crown with an estimated 46.7 million U.S. dollars in North America, Los Angeles-based industry analysis firm Media By Numbers reported Sunday.
The film starring Vince Vaughn and Oscar-winning Reese Witherspoon from Warner Bros. beat out a strong second week showing from the teen-hot vampire romance "Twilight" with the third-best Thanksgiving weekend opening performance ever in Hollywood history.
Summit Entertainment's "Twilight" last week's leader, is on its way to franchise status with a massive 119.7 million dollars take over two weeks, including 39.6 million dollars over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Disney canine comedy "Bolt" had a major comeback, and is expected to see 36 million dollars in its second weekend of exhibition. The cartoon was in the second spot over the final three days of the weekend, and is on track to sell 66.9 million dollars worth of tickets in the United States and Canada.
Despite those cheery numbers, overall movie receipts are down 4 percent so far this year after Hollywood saw record box office revenues last year. |
