The much-anticipated 2007 Midi Music Festival raised its curtain to die-hard rock fans at Beijing's Haidian Park on Tuesday.

The first day of the four-day festival attracted an estimated 15,000 fans.

The Midi Music Festival is widely known as China's largest outdoor music event. Ninety bands and 57 musicians from China and abroad will perform across five stages this year.

The performances will showcase the entire spectrum of Chinese and international music, including rock, electronica, hip-hop and sound art.

This year's festival is co-sponsored by Greenpeace.
