Table Tennis: Beijing Beat Hebei for Opening Victory

Host team Beijing, spearheaded by world top player Zhang Yining, struggled to beat Hebei 3-1 for their opening victory in the women's competition of the 2006 table tennis China Super League season.

v Surprises Rock Women's League

World number one Zhang suffered a surprising 3-1 loss to Niu Jianfeng in the first singles match of the series.

However, Zhang's senior teammate Guo Yan avenged the loss for Beijing as she beat Hebei's Bai Yang in the second singles clash.

Guo battled back from two sets down and overcame deficits of 5-0 in the fifth to defeat Bai 3-1.

Guo then teamed up with Ding Ning to defeat Bai Yang and Jian Jun 3-1 in the doubles showdown.

Zhang Yining returned to her form in the third singles match and wrapped up the victory for Beijing by beating Jia Jun 3-2.

In other women's matches, Shandong stunned visiting Henan with a 3-0 victory.

In the men's competitons, Liao Ning and Shandong each snatched a 3-0 over their rivals.
