Baseball: Bonds Ties Ruth with 714th Career Home Run
2006-05-21 10:19:56  Xinhua
Barry Bonds hit his 714th home run Saturday with a second-inning blast against the Oakland A's to tie the legendary Babe Ruth for second place on Major League Baseball's all-time homer list.

The San Francisco Giants outfielder pulled the Giants level at 1-1 in Oakland in the game, an interleague affair played at the home of San Francisco's Bay Area rivals.

Bonds received more cheers than boos from a Bay Area crowd as he rounded the bases to be greeted by son Nikolai at home plate.

Bonds even strode out of the dugout for a curtain call for the blast, which left him trailing only Hank Aaron on the all-time US list. After one more homer to move past Ruth, Bonds will take aim at Hank Aaron's major league mark of 755.
