The women's 1,000-meter race was China's gold medal hope after skater Li Jiajun and Li Haonan were disqualified in men's 500-meter competition.
Dramatically, on the starting line stood two Chinese women and two Korean women. The two countries have been longtime rivals on the ice rink.
But the result is a repetition of that of the women's 1,500-meter race: with her outstanding surpassing ability, South Korea's Jin Sun-yu edged out Wang Meng and Yang Yang (A) to have won the gold medal.
Wang Meng explains why she fails to grab a gold.
She says she accelerated too early, and although she has got better explosive force, the South Korean athlete is better in terms of sprinting.
But Wang Meng says she was satisfied with her overall performance in this Olympics. She won the gold medal in 5,00-meter race, the silver medal in 1,000-meter competition, and the bronze in 1,500-meter race.
As for Yang Yang (A), Turin is her last Olympics, and to leave the sports arena soon, she seems to have a complicated feeling.
She says she's gained a lot over the past two years since she returned to the playing area, and she has nothing to regret although her performance has not been as good as she has expected.
Up to now, the Chinese squad have seized 11 medals at this Olympics, two more medals than what they got in the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. China now ranks 14th in the medals tally, with two golds, four slivers, and five bronzes.
The closing ceremony of the Turin Olympics is scheduled to start at 8pm Sunday Turin time and 3am Monday Beijing time. กก
