Mauresmo to Face Henin in Final after Clijsters Retires

A repeat of the 2004 women's singles final, hoped by many Belgians, became unrealistic after Kim Clijsters retired from the semi-final against Frenchwoman Emilie Mauresmo.

Clijsters was forced to give up after she strained her ankle in the third and decisive set when she was 2-3 behind.

Clijsters took the first set 7-5 and was overpowered by Mauresmo in the second set where she lost 6-2.

The Belgian's retirement favored the Frenchwoman her only second appearance to the Gland Slam's finals.

Mauresmo will face Justine Henin-Hardanne, also from Belgium, in the final scheduled for Saturday.
