 (File phote taken when the team arrived at the base on Dec. 6th) Chinese explorers have reached the South Pole, completing a grand slam adventure, after scaling the summits of all the seven continents and the two Poles.

Wang Yongfeng, head of the team, reported back to Beijing.
"We arrived the point at 15 minutes past midnight on December 16th, Beijing Time. "
Wang says the team arrived the point altogether and everybody is obviously very excited as they take pictures at the point.
Also arriving at the South Pole are the five mascots of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
"We have brought with us the five mascots of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. We wish the Games great success!"
The seven explorers left Beijing at the beginning of the month and started their walk to the South Pole on December 7th.
During the nine-day expedition, the Chinese explorers endured great hardships, including freezing cold temperatures and snowstorms, in order to complete their mission.
Wang Yongfeng, Ciluo and Liu Jian, have become the first Chinese to complete the grand mission.
To date, there are only eight on the earth, including the three Chinese, have completed such a grand slam adventure. |
