Dmitry Klokov of Russia won the gold medal in the men's 105kg category on Wednesday to maintain his family tradition at the World Weightlifting Championships.

Klokov's father won the world champion in 1983, and Klokov followed suit when he lifted 192kg in the snatch and jerked 227kg to finish a total result of 419kg.

Alexandru Bratan of Moldavia claimed the silver at 413kg with Martin Tesovic of Slovak taking the bronze with a total result of 412kg.

The 22-year-old Klokov opened with 186kg, followed by another good lift with 190kg, before lifting 192kg at his third attempt to place first in the snatch while Bratan, 28, came in second at 190kg.

Klokov made 222kg on his first attempt in the clean and jerk, but Bratan overtook him with his second attempt at 223kg, and Tesovic, who had won the third in the snatch with 187kg lift, succeeded in his third attempt at 225kg. Klokov then lifted 227kg on his second attempt.

Bratan asked for 229 on his third attempt, in an effort to move into first place in the jerk and the total, but only deadlifted it. Having clinched the gold medal, Klokov gave up the last lift.

The World Weightlifting Championships, running from November 9 to 17, has a total of 15 golds on offer, featuring 307 weightlifters, including 192 strongmen and 115 strongwomen from 61 countries and regions.
