Argentine football hero Diego Maradonna has joined Argentina's World Cup training team, Julio Grondona, head of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), said on Friday. Grondona said that the exact work that Maradona will do on the team cannot yet be specified, but said that Maradonna would "do what is necessary" whether this means attending meetings of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) or observing international games. Argentina has two international friendly games planned: against England next Saturday and against Qatar on Nov. 16. "After the friendlies we will clarify the concerns... of some members of the press to see what one trainer will do and what others will do, in a press conference," said Grondona.
He said that the current head of the training squad Jose Pekermann had not objected to Maradonna's joining the training team. In response to a question over whether Maradonna could become the national team's coach after 2006, Grondino said: "If all goes well, why not?" He added that Pekermann might return to managing the team, rather than coaching it, if that were to be the case.
