World No.1 Zhang Yining finally got rid of an
under-par form to lead Beijing to the top podium

World No.1 Zhang Yining proved her dominance at the 10th National Games, winning two games in Beijing's 3-1 victory over Shandong and leading Beijing to win the women's table tennis team event on Thursday.

Guo Yan, runner up at World Championships, lost 3-2 to Shandong's Li Xiaoxia in the first singles before Zhang made it level at 1-1 with a storming 3-0 win over Peng Luyang.

The girl's perfect show of quality must draw
attention from the national team

Ding Ning, a 15-year-old who makes her debut at National Games, gave out her best to upset Jiang Huajun 3-2 to put Beijing on the driving seat with a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth singles, Zhang wasted no time to beat Li Xiaoxia 11-5, 11-5, 11-6.

Hebei finished third with a 3-2 comeback win over Liaoning.

Asian champion Hong Kong Special Administrative Region finished only the seventh in the competition.
