Military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement on Sunday vowed to respond to any Israeli military operation in Gaza Strip, two days after a shaky ceasefire expired.

"The Palestinian resistance deals with the Israeli threats seriously and will respond strongly to the Israeli aggression," said the spokesman, Abu Ahmad.

The less influential Islamic Jihad was behind most of the rocket attacks, which were carried out from Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, against Israeli border towns over the past couple of days.

Abu Ahmad said the rockets that his group fired Sunday were in response to what he described "Israeli attacks against jailed Palestinian prisoners," referring to riot in an Israeli-run prison near West Bank city of Ramallah Saturday.

A Thai worker was slightly injured and a woman was treated for shock after rockets fired by the movement hit southern Israel on Sunday morning.

"The settlers in the towns near Gaza Strip should not sleep as long as Gaza Strip's children and residents are deprived of water, electricity and medicine," Abu Ahmad said.

In recent weeks, Israel tightened blockade on Gaza Strip and withheld fuel supplies to Gaza's power plant after the ceasefire was rocked by a surge of violence.

Hamas said it was not interested in renewing the ceasefire deal, accusing Israel of not respecting its terms.
