    2008-11-05 15:46:53     Xinhua

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said that he does not see any immediate change in the U.S. foreign policy toward Iraq after the Americans elected Barack Obama as their president, al-Arabiyah pan Arab television reported Wednesday.

In an interview with Dubai-based Arabiyah, Zebari said "We don' t foresee any change overnight or any change in the U.S. commitments toward Iraq."

U.S. Democratic Party candidate Barack Obama won a landslide victory in the U.S. presidential election Tuesday.

Zebari expressed his country's hope that Obama's victory would be an opportunity to establish a sort of "successful future partnership" between the two countries.

He also congratulated Obama for his win and called the elections as "historic."

During his campaign, Obama said he intends to get the American soldiers in Iraq home within 16 months after carrying the post of commander in chief.
