One Killed, 3 Missing During Flash Floods in N.Thailand
    2007-09-10 11:28:42     Xinhua

At least one person was killed and three others went missing when flash floods hit two villages in Thailand's northern province of Phetcha Bun on Monday morning, officials said.

The rundowns hit Na Sum and Nong Yai villages in Lom Kao district at 7:40 a.m. (0040 GMT). Officials said the water level was still rising.

Soon after the report of flash floods in Phetcha Bun and nearby provinces, the Meteorological Department of Thailand warned residents of 11 northern and northeastern provinces to brace themselves for possible flash floods.

The department said Chiang Rai, Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Phichit, Loei, Chaiyaphum, Mahasarakham, Kalasin, and Nakhon Ratchasima Province could be hit by flash floods Monday and Tuesday.

The department said in its morning forecast issued on Monday that the provinces would see heavy downpours at the result of a low pressure ridge over the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand.
