UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has called leaders in the Middle East to work together to ensure that there is stability and unity in Lebanon and to encourage patience on all sides.
Addressing the media on the situations in Lebanon on Wednesday, Annan said Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora sent him a letter requesting "technical assistance" in the government's investigation and he will be meeting the Lebanese Minister who is in New York to discuss details.
" I hope the government will be able to react quickly to the statutes that have been sent to them so that we can move on to the next stage. But, of course, the situation is delicate and fragile and we all should do whatever we can to support the Lebanese people and government and encourage them to stand united."
The Lebanese prime minister asked UN staff investigating last year's assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri to assist the government's inquiry into the latest assassination of Lebanese's Industry Minister Pierre Gemayel, who was shot to death in Beirut on Tuesday.
