The commemorative China-ASEAN summit will be held before the end of this month in South China's Nanning city.
Speaking about the upcoming event, Indonesian ambassador to China Sudradjat says his country is looking forward to the opening of the summit.
According to the ambassador, Indonesia's establishment of a strategic partnership with China last year was a milestone for bilateral relations. Since then, exchanges and cooperation between the two nations have been developed and are now in full swing. Sudradjat expresses hope that the two sides could cooperate on more levels and in more ways.
"For example, there is strategic cooperation in terms of politics, security, and defense, to promote peace and security in the region and between our two countries as well. The second is to promote economic cooperation, trade investment, and also tourism. And the last thing is social contact between peoples - cultural exchange. "
He also stresses that the China-ASEAN free trade zone currently under construction is of great significance to economic and trade cooperation between Indonesia and China. Sudradjat believes the two countries are working towards the same goal - to promote bilateral cooperation and common development.
"Both of our countries have ambitions to promote our trade to more than 20 billion US dollars in 2008. We expect by the year 2010, we both can reach more than 30 billion US dollars. Of course, we would also like to promote investment between the two countries."
Meanwhile, cultural exchange has also been going well. In 2003, the Chinese language became an optional course in Indonesian middle schools. China also sent Chinese teachers to assist in the language instruction.
