Japanese PM Says Nuclear Debate "Finished"

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday crushed the budding debate on whether his country should consider its own nuclear deterrent, saying the "debate is over".

"In my opinion, that debate is finished. There is absolutely no division within the Cabinet."

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso said earlier on Wednesday that Japan would preserve its non-nuclear arms principles, but said it was important to discuss the nuclear issue.
