Reconstruction is still underway one year after a massive earthquake rocked South Asia.
Though many people still live in temporary shelters, Pakistani officials are optimistic that the reconstruction work will be completed within the foreseeable future.
Major General Nadeem Ahmed is the Deputy Chairman of Pakistan’s Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority.
"Life is going on (as) normal. But with the passage of time, we will continue to build the schools, the hospitals, the roads, the water supply schemes. And I'm very confident that within two to three years we should be able to complete our task.”
The magnitude 7.6 quake hit the Himalayan region of Kashmir and neighboring mountainous northern Pakistan on October 8 last year. It killed over 80 thousand people, and left more than 3 million others homeless.
According to the relief agency Oxfam, 1.8 (m) million survivors are still living in tents or makeshift shacks.
