The US ambassador to North Korea says his country is prepared to pursue "new approaches" to resolve the standoff over the North Korean nuclear issue.
Alexander Vershbow said this at a forum with South Korean lawmakers on Tuesday, but he did not elaborate what those approaches would be.
Vershbow saus that the US could meet bilaterally with North Korea if Pyongyang promised to resume the six-nation nuclear talks
"We're open to new approaches and as I said last week, Assistant Secretary Christopher Hill is open to bilateral meetings with his North Korean counterpart if Pyongyang commits to a return to six-party talks."
North Korea has boycotted the six-party talks, involving China, Japan, Korea, Russia and the US. It demands Washington drop financial restrictions imposed on the country's alleged complicity in counterfeiting and money laundering.
