European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and senior Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani met in Vienna on Saturday for talks about Tehran's defiance of international demands that it give up uranium enrichment.
The talks were focusing on whether there was common ground to start negotiations. Following the meeting, senior Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani says the result is positive.
“We had some good and constructive talks and we have made some progress in some areas. And we shall continue tomorrow.”
The talks took place in the Austrian Chancellor’s office and lasted three hours.
The talks were originally planned for Wednesday but were postponed .
The EU hopes to persuade Tehran through diplomatic channels to halt its uranium enrichment in exchange for a package of incentives.
