UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Saturday began talks with Iranian officials in Tehran.
The visit comes two days after Iran failed to meet a UN deadline for suspending uranium enrichment.
Annan said he'd be seeking Iran's support for the UN resolution that halted Israeli-Hezbollah fighting and called for an increased UN force of 15-thousand troops in Lebanon's south.
"I'm here to discuss the implementation of resolution 1701 which deals with the situation in Lebanon and I will also expect to discuss issues of concern to this region and to the international community."
Earlier, Iran warned it would revise its policy of cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency - or IAEA - if sanctions were imposed over its nuclear program.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana is set to meet early next week with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani.
While the EU's fixed no deadline on Iran, EU foreign ministers meet September 15 in Brussels and expect a report from Solana then.
