The government's recent 570-million-dollar spending package is intended to stimulate China's economy during the global economic crisis.

But many people have started voicing concern over the actual use of this massive expenditure, particularly on projects they consider irrational such as luxury office buildings that are on the "shopping lists" of various local governments.

An article in the Xinhua Daily Telegraph argues that such spending will consume a large amount of funds from the package, which is supposed to facilitate domestic economic growth and improve infrastructure construction.

The article also suggests that the government should make more efforts to set up a monitoring system to ensure that all the funds from the economic stimulus package are used properly for their intended puposes, including job creation, health care and social security.
