A supermarket in Loudi, central China's Hunan province, was looted Wednesday at broad daylight by hundreds of local people, including some 50 of its commodity suppliers, ending up with a loss of up to one million yuan.
China News Service reported that the chaos at the store, a chain branch of Jiajiale Supermarket, occurred at noon time Wednesday when about 50 suppliers arrived at its doorstep and press for payments after the store came to a sudden closure Tuesday evening.
Failing to get any promise of payments from the supermarket boss, the suppliers started clearing their goods out from the supermarket.
The move was later joined by other debtors who came following suit. The extended disorder then drew many other locals and a robbery was unavoidable in the end.
The chaos lasted for about an hour, and the supermarket was almost empty by the time when the local police were rushed on site.
The case is now under investigation.
