Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin said in Beijing Thursday that he hoped compatriots in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan would share the joy and glory brought by the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during his meeting with a Taiwan delegation led by Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung.

Wu and his delegation were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics scheduled on Friday night.

Jia said China's mainland highly appreciated supports given to the Beijing Olympics by Taiwan compatriots, as well as their care and participation in the event, such as working as volunteers.

Jia extended warm welcome to all Taiwan compatriots who are visiting the mainland for the Olympic Games.

"I hope you will share passion, joy and glory associated with the Olympic Games with brothers and sisters of the mainland," he told the delegation.

He also wish good luck to Taiwan Olympic athletes.

According to the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, the Chinese Taipei Olympic delegation comprises 133 persons, including 80 athletes competing in 15 events.

Wu said Taiwan compatriots all wished a great success of the Beijing Olympics, and hoped athletes from the mainland and Taiwan to achieve the best during competitions.

Jia is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. He said the CPC and Kuomintang should strengthen dialogues to push forward the relationship across the Taiwan Straits, particularly after the meeting between Wu and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Hu Jintao in May this year.
