More foreign leaders, governments and officials have offered condolences and aid to China following the devastating earthquake in the country's southwestern Sichuan province on May 12, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
Lebanese President Michel Suleiman and Tanzanian Prime Minister Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda have sent messages of condolences respectively to Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, expressing their sympathies over the deadly earthquake.
The Liberian government has donated 25,000 U.S. dollars to China.
The Eritrean government has decided to donate 50,000 dollars to China.
Saudi Prince Talal Ben Abdul Aziz, president of the Arab Gulf Program for the United Nations Development Organizations, has offered a donation of 100,000 U.S. dollars.
The members of the House of Representatives of Japan contributed 2.4 million yen (about 23,000 U.S. dollars) to the quake-hit areas.
The Andean Parliament adopted a resolution to express its support to the Chinese government and the people in the disaster-hit areas, and called on the international community to offer help to the earthquake-striken region.
An 8.0-magnitude earthquake jolted southwest China's Sichuan province on May 12, leaving 69,159 people dead and 374,141 others injured as of Thursday noon, according to State Council Information Office. |
