The Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate and its subordinate procuratorates opened itself to the public on a Open Day on Wednesday by inviting citizens to its offices, exhibition halls and education centers.

Over 6,000 citizens participated in the event, targeted toward "intensifying legal supervision and safeguarding fairness and justice," the Beijing-based Guangming Daily reported.

The open day featured activities such as documentary film screenings, visits to exhibition halls and offices, question-and-answer sessions and public consultations.

Through the process, citizens gained a rare but general knowledge of the mission, working procedure and latest achievements of the procuratorate.

Feedback from the public was also encouraged, the report said.

"We have drafted a regulation on the implementation of the open information day in an effort to make it a regular, long-term event," Mu Ping, chief prosecutor of Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate said.

This is the first time the Municipal People's Procuratorate has organized such an event, following last year's event held by the First and Second Branch Procuratorate, as well as other 12 subordinate procuratorates in the capital.
