China's authorities recorded 2,086 fires nationwide in the week-long National Day holiday, down 45 percent from the same period of last year, the Ministry of Public Security said on Tuesday.
The fires left 13 people dead, down 7 percent, and six injured, down 78.6 percent, causing losses of more than 8.81 million yuan (1.16 million U.S. dollars), according to the ministry.
More than 30,000 police composed of 12,099 teams inspected public places, scenic spots, entertainment places, supermarkets and high risk areas during the holidays and reported 64,850 hidden fire dangers.
Local fire brigades sent 84,064 firemen and 13,456 vehicles to put out the fires and engage in rescue and disaster relief, while fires forced 7,826 people to leave their homes. |
