Public Security Organs Investigate Rural Chaotic Areas

An official with the Ministry of Public Security says security organs around China are engaging in a thorough investigation of chaotic areas with bad security in the countryside.

Wu Dongli, director of the ministry's security management bureau, tells the official website of Chinese government that after the investigation, steps will be taken to solve those prominent security problems as well as to destruct underground powers such as those that control the local water resources or vegetable trade.

The official notes that administration will be strengthened in rental houses, hostels, ballrooms and internet cafe, as well as on dangerous articles, such as explosives and severe poisons.

Meanwhile, Wu Dongli notes that a gambling racket called "liuhecai" or "mark-six lottery" has reemerged in some rural areas recently and officials believe wide participation of people from all walks of life is important for the crackdown on gambling.

Instant reporting to public security organs is encouraged once an illegal gambling activity is spotted.

Statistics show security organs have inspected over 76,000 gambling cases since 2003.

The interview focuses on maintaining security in the countryside and construction of new countryside. About 900 million people currently reside in China's countryside.
