    2007-08-21 03:39:21     Xinhua

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit China from Aug. 26 to 29, German ambassador to China Volker Stanzel said on Monday.

Merkel will attend the opening ceremony of a series of cultural activities to be held in major Chinese cities of Nanjing, Guangzhou and Chengdu, Stanzel said.

Introducing comprehensive information of Germany to Chinese people, these activities will mark the 35th anniversary of Germany-China diplomatic ties, he said.

Stanzel said he hoped to present a modern, open Germany through these activities to attract more Chinese tourists and scholars to visit his country.

Germany is happy to see that its cooperation with China has been involved in various fields especially in climate changes, Stanzel said.

He said Merkel's visit is important as it comes at a prime time of the development of bilateral relations.
