Chinese President Hu Jintao says both China and US should give full play to the China-US economic strategic dialogue mechanism and link it with other talks to further develop bilateral economic cooperation.

The Chinese president made the statement when meeting U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson in Beijing on Wednesday.

Hu Jintao said China would like to deepen mutual trust and further promote bilateral constructive cooperation to a new level.

He also stressed maintaining the healthy and stable development of Sino-US economic ties is not only good for the two countries and their peoples, but also necessary for the healthy and stable development of the global economy.

Henry Paulson said he will endeavor to turn the dialogue into a bridge for easing bilateral frictions, coping with disputes and solving problems with Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi.

He also expressed the wish that the U.S. would like to strengthen cooperation with China in the fields of energy and environmental protection.

Paulson arrived in China on Sunday for a four-day visit.
