               Exposure of "Cardboard Dumplings" TV Hoax Leaves Bad Taste with Beijingers

Six more people with Beijing TV Station were criticized, reprimanded, or sacked in association with a fake "cardboard dumpling" TV report, Xinhua has learned.

The head of Beijing Television Station, Liu Aiqin, was publicly reprimanded, its editor-in-chief, Zhang Xiao was given a warning.

One deputy editor-in-chief was given a demerit, said sources from the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

All the three were asked to do self-criticism.

In the meantime, the deputy director in charge of the Life Channel of the TV service (the director post is vacant), and another deputy director in charge of the Transparency column under which the faked footage was aired, were sacked.

The producer of the column was also sacked.

And contracts of editorial staff for the Transparency column with the Beijing TV Station were terminated.

The culprit, Zi Beijia, a temporary employee of the column who produced the fake footage with a home video camera, has been detained by police.

Beijing Television station has apologized in an evening news program on Wednesday for airing the fabricated.

"We should apologize to the public for the Life Channel's failure to strictly examine the content of the report, resulting in the airing of a faked report which in turn undermined public confidence," said the station announcement.

The All-China Journalists' Association has released a statement which was aired by China Central Television Channel 1 (CCTV-1) on Thursday evening, denouncing the report and calling on all Chinese media workers to pursue genuine issues and preserve professional ethics.
